Underground Kayaking

Kayaking adventure through the underground of Mount Peca - A unique experience in the Geopark Karawanken.

In 1994 the excavation of ore in the Mežica mine was finished. The water was no longer released from the mine, therefore the lower parts were completely flooded.

The tour starts in front of the Mining Museum in Mežica, where you will receive a wetsuit, protective jacket, helmet and headlamp. Wearing a protective suit, you will ride 3.5 km with the miner's train through the Glančnik adit to the Union entrance.

From here, with the help of the stairs, you will descend 95 m towards the water, where the kayaks are already waiting for you. Together with the guide you will start the magical trip on the small underground river to the mystical lakes. You will row through the clear and calm water and admire the underground labyrinth of tunnels. In the process, you will learn what it was like in the days when machines hummed and tools hammered in the mine.

The price also includes a miner’s lunch.
The minimum height for the visit is 150 cm.
